The Sociology

social world, including the ways in which society is structured, the forces
that shape social behaviour, and the consequences of social action. The
department seeks to achieve the following objectives:
·
To provide students with a broad knowledge of sociological
theories, concepts, and methods that are necessary for understanding social
phenomena.
·
To enable students to develop critical thinking skills,
and to encourage them to question taken-for-granted assumptions about social
life.
·
To promote students’ ability to conduct empirical
research, analyse data, and write effectively about social issues.
·
To provide students with a global perspective on social
issues and to help them understand the interdependence of different
societies.
·
To prepare students for careers in fields such as social
research, social policy, education, and community development.
·
To promote social justice and equality through research,
teaching, and service to the community.
·
To foster an environment that encourages intellectual
curiosity, independent thinking, and lifelong learning.
·
To encourage students to engage in interdisciplinary
learning and collaboration, as well as to develop a range of transferable
skills such as communication, teamwork, and problem-solving.
·
To cultivate students’ awareness of their own social
position and experiences, as well as their responsibilities as citizens in a
diverse and complex society.
·
To contribute to the advancement of sociological knowledge
through research, scholarship, and publication.
·
To engage in public outreach and advocacy activities that
promote social change and improve the lives of individuals and communities.
